Division Commander's Stateroom
The Division Commander's Stateroom on a destroyer was utilized by a Division Commander of four to six Destroyers if the ship was a flagship. This stateroom was the largest cabin on the ship and included a private head (bathroom ) with sink, shower and toilet along with a safe, transom berth that could also be used as a couch, desk, file cabinet, and a large wardrobe for hanging uniforms. When a Division Commander was not aboard, the ship's Captain would move up into this space and the Executive Officer would move into the Captain's In-port Cabin.
KENNEDY was a flagship through much of her career and this space was even used by President John F. Kennedy and his wife Jackie Kennedy as a lounge during the America's Cup races in 1962.
