Chart Room

The Chart Room (or sometimes called Chart House) was a space aboard the destroyer in which sailors called Quartermasters (QM) tracked the position of the ship as well as store all primary charts, bulletins, and navigational documentation. Sextants, a fathometer for reading the amount of water under the keel of the ship, chronometers for accurately monitoring time for celestial navigation, and a LORAN (long-range navigation) unit to acquire longitude and latitude positioning of the ship via the time delay between two or more sets of radio transmitters were all within this compartment.

QM's were responsible to ensure that the correct navigational charts were in the chart table in the Pilot House, Combat Information Center, and Chart Room as well as the job of advancing and retarding the clocks throughout the ship.
