Welcome to the Friends of the USS Joseph P. Kennedy Jr. DD850
The Friends of the USS Joseph P. Kennedy Jr. DD850 is a fellowship and advocacy organization created to support the preservation of this very historic USN Destroyer, provide for comradery among veterans, volunteers, and interested parties, as well as to perpetuate the legacy of the men and women that have gone to sea on destroyers - past, present, and future.
What do you do?
Our organization supports the following: volunteer field day events, acquire USN parts and equipment, work to raise donations to fund restoration and projects aboard DD850, support special tours of the JPK, publicize and promote the history of the ship, and work with sister Destroyer organizations to preserve the history of all US Navy Destroyers.
Who can join?
Our group is open to anyone with a interest in the preservation of the JPK and destroyer history! Crewmembers of the JPK, sailors from other ships, and the general public are all asked to get involved to preserve history.
Do you have reunions?
As we begin our organization, we plan to hold reunions and programs open to all crewmembers, volunteers, and friends of the JPK. In fact, we hope to unite crewmembers of DD850 with those from other ships and the many supporters of this destroyer.
What do you see in the near future for the Friends of the JPK?
We plan to offer membership, a newsletter, Facebook and website outreach programs, and other benefits.
